Sarah Howell-Real
Welcome to the Cedar Ridge High School Visual Arts Department!
Here at CRHS I am one of 5 visual arts educators; I specialize in teaching drawing levels 1, 2, and 3 within the Visual and Performing Arts Academy. I have the MOST amazing drawing students who surprise me every single day with their abilities and desire to be lifelong artists within their own unique journey. I also teach Art 1 to many talented students who are exploring their interests within the visual arts world for the first time as young adults.
I co-sponsor Cedar Ridge's National Art Honor Society (NAHS) alongside Ms. Briceno-Connolly. NAHS is group of all-around high achieving students with outstanding artistic abilities who want to bring art education and service to the school and community.

Since my drawing students showed incredible skill and high interest in our printmaking unit last school year, I will be sponsoring a new club this school year. During the 2017-18 school year I will also be sponsoring the Printmaking Club for those students who love printmaking. More info soon!
I have been part of the wonderful RRISD family from the start of my career:
Caraway Elem/McNeil HS - student teaching, fall 2009
McNeil HS - long term art substitute, spring 2010
Hernandez MS - art teacher, 2010 - 2012 Go Bulldogs!
Cedar Ridge HS - art teacher, 2012 - current Go Raiders!
I grew up in a military family and lived all over the United States. I ended up in Belton, TX as a teen and graduated from Belton HS. I continued my education and graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with honors and a BFA in Art Education, K-12. Outside of teaching, I try to spend as much time with my sweet husband and our amazing 2.5 year old son as I can. I am very close to my family - my biggest supporters - who have always been by my side to show me what compassion, kindness, respect, and humor look like. I love traveling, being outside, and developing/creating art in a variety of media.
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
Pablo Picasso
"All grown-ups were once children... but only a few of them remember it."
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Please feel free to contact me at any time with any question; my goal is always to get back to you within 24 hours (at the latest) especially during competition time.
*E-mail is ALWAYS the best way to quickly get ahold of me.*
*I will be teaching 7 class periods this school year (instead of the usual 6), so I will only have 1 conference.*
I am very excited to be starting off my 8th year teaching
- my 6th year here at Cedar Ridge High School -
as a RAIDER!
